Dear Moms, Dads, Relatives, Educators and Business Owners!
My husband believes everything in life is a competition. He believes in teaching the children that life is not fair and winning is what counts. I operate at the other end of the scale. I believe it is not the final results that matter, but having fun or enjoying what you do on your journey to get there. Hopefully our children will find some middle ground!
After watching some of the Olympics footage on television, my children now refer to coming first, second or third as “Gold, silver and bronze.” If you don’t get gold, silver or bronze then it’s “Thanks for coming to the competition!” If you are not very good at the task chosen for the competition then it’s “Sorry you didn’t make it to the competition!”
Now everything in our house has become an Olympics sport. From getting dressed into your pyjamas and brushing your teeth to getting into the car and doing up your seat belt. This is working so well in my favour that I am considering defecting to my husband’s point of view. My children, who used to complete a task or chore at the speed of a sloth, now make an exceptional effort to be the fastest. A gold, silver or bronze is acceptable but nobody in our house wants to get the “Thanks for coming to the competition!”
Those new mums who have not yet booked a place at a Baby Sense Seminar, there is still space at the Durban, P.E. and Cape Town venues, but hurry, space is limited and Joburg is already sold out. (Those of you in Joburg who didn’t book – sorry you didn’t make it to the competition!”)
Spring has sprung (anyone else get the corny photo of the spring flying through the air) and I am sure your little Olympians will be anxious to compete for medals in your pool or by running through the sprinklers once again. We have included a Summer feature with a list of lots of useful Summer gear and products to read about plus our usual mix of new books, DVD and movie releases.
Enjoy.
Take care.

An Elephant's Tail is part of the Animal Adventures in Africa series, which tells of the exciting escapades of five young animals living in a game reserve somewhere in Africa! There's Lee O the lion cub, Bongo the baby baboon, Vile the young vulture, Hevi the hippo and Manji the meerkat ... and every day brings them a new adventure! It's a cool, hip kids book series aimed at the 6-10 year age group - but can be read to younger children. Each story touches on principles of honesty, integrity and loyalty, and in addition to the engaging tale contained within the pages of each book, Animal Adventures in Africa will also help our children become aware of the vital role they have to play in wildlife protection, in a very entertaining way!
