I used to have the "Bah humbug!" attitude towards Christmas. I hated shopping amongst crowds, I hated all the hype and Christmas carols and I hated the pressure of trying to find the right present for each person. My husband and I never put up decorations or even a Christmas tree.
Children have changed our whole attitude towards this time of the year. I love shopping especially for toys, I love showing my kids all the Christmas lights, taking them to carol services and shows. I also love watching them decorate the tree (and no I don't redecorate it afterwards). I have gone from one extreme to the next. I now find it hard not to go overboard! This year I am really trying hard to aim for middle ground.
I also love this time of the year for the fact that it gives parents the ideal opportunity to teach or remind their kids about the gift of giving. It is a good time of the year to help your children go through all their toys and clothes and choose some items to give to those less fortunate. Father Christmas is the icon of giving, and the earlier we can teach our children that you need to give in order to receive, the better. For a list of charities, please click here.

Top tip - Make sure you buy your children age appropriate gifts for Christmas. Gifts that are not age appropriate can cause children harm, frustration and are most likely going to sit in the cupboard until the child is old enough anyway! Click here to email us your parenting tip.
