The last month and a half was crammed full of social engagements including Easter, a christening, a bunch of kids' parties, my sister's surprise 40th birthday party, friends visiting from overseas and then Mother's Day on Sunday. I never thought I would hear myself say this, but I am happy not to eat cake for a while (she says as she bites into a piece of chocolate leftover from Mother's Day). I am almost glad Winter is on it's way (not that we have much of a Winter here in KZN), but this cake and chocolate padded body is ready to hibernate at home in big and comfortable clothes under a cosy duvet for a while. Who would have thought that one could have such a hectic social life in Durban of all places? What happened to the only options being "stay at home or go to beach?" If you are also in the mood for snuggling up in a duvet with your laptop, and you're a woman, then I have found a great new channel on You Tube for you to visit entitled "Only in a Woman's World". It is an animated series about 4 women friends. It is also a very clever marketing strategy by Lays for those of you who take an interest in virals and online marketing. There are 9 "webisodes" so far and the most current one is a Mother's Day Special. For all those moms who have dreamed of being whisked away on a surprise romantic weekend with their husband, this episode reveals what could actually happen and will encourage you to document a "What to pack in case you take me away on a surprise weekend" list for the husband. In contrast, on Mother's Day, we stayed at home with the family and my husband cooked lunch for all the moms. In addition to receiving my favourite Lindt chocolate, my daughter (6 and a half years) presented me with the first chapter of her first book that she has written and illustrated herself. It is about a giraffe who ventured off into the bush on his skateboard to look for a tree with juicy leaves. My son presented me with the finest pair of binoculars he could conjure up with toilet rolls and tape accompanied by the biggest, proudest smile that lit up his face. What more could a mother ask for? Hope you had a happy mothers day too. |
