Dear Moms, Dads, Relatives, Educators and Business Owners!

The kids playing in the river at Cathedral PeakLast month my husband surprised us and booked a weekend away for the family in the Drakensberg at Cathedral Peak Hotel. We were all exhausted and we needed to get away and relax and have some time together as a family.

Cathedral Peak is a lovely hotel surrounded by beautiful mountains. They are geared up for families and offer an array of facilities and activities for parents and kids. We planned on trying out everything and making the most of what was on offer.

We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and whilst the kids played on the jungle gyms and trampoline, we made a list of what we would most like to do. The weather was perfect, even hot, so we decided to start with some of the outdoor activities. My husband and I lay on the grass and chatted whilst the kids continued to play on the jungle gyms. We would start with activity 1 and 2 on the list just as soon as the kids got bored. The time sneaked by and the sun dropped behind the mountain. It was dinner time already. Nevermind, I thought, we can get through the list tomorrow.

The next morning we read through the list to the kids and asked them what they would like to do first. They decided on a picnic by the river. Great, that should take 2 hours and then we can move on to the next activity on our list. We took our picnic pack, which the hotel kitchen had made up for us, and took a stroll down the hill to the picnic site next to the river. It was another beautiful, warm day. There was noone else in sight. It was just the four of us and the birds. The kids naturally made a beeline for the water. My husband and I sat on the rocks chatting and throwing pebbles in the water to make them skip across the surface. Four hours later we were still relaxing on the rocks, watching the kids, who by now had stripped off all their clothes and were shrieking with delight as they dared each other to wade deeper into the ice cold water.

Six hours later, we finally made our way back up the hill to the hotel. My husband and I were totally relaxed and unwound and the kids were covered in dirt and grinning from ear to ear. Perhaps tomorrow we could get through a few of the activities on our list before we leave to go home....or we could bin the list and see what the kids would like to do and continue at their pace!

Whether you are just starting or just finishing your holidays, I hope you are having some quality family time together enjoying life at a slower pace!

LEARNING TO LOVE ME!
Many children lack a feeling of love and respect for themselves. They are made to compare themselves through the media and often measure their worth according to the clothes they wear or the toys they play with. This workshop helps to boost self-esteem by creating an unconditional belief in the self by taking a look at personal attributes and how to maximise on this potential.
Wednesday, 11 July
WHY DOESN’T ANYBODY UNDERSTAND ME?
As humans, we are social beings who interact constantly with each other. This workshop looks at the intricacies of verbal and non-verbal communication and how misunderstandings may arise when having a conversation. The specific outcome is for children to learn to show empathy towards others by using “I” messages instead of blaming “you” messages.
Thursday, 12 July
SEARCH FOR THE HERO INSIDE YOURSELF!
Sometimes, going through life is like going through a scary maze. Often, children are confronted with many circumstances which they are unable to control. This workshop empowers children to make a conscious decision to be their best self even under trying circumstances, by believing in their own inner strength and encouraging them to ask for help should they need it.
