Dear Moms, Dads, Relatives, Educators and Business Owners

My cat thought that Christmas lunch had come early this week when my son, in pursuit of cute pet photos, plonked his hamster right next to him and then went off to find the camera. Fortunately, I was nearby and heard the hamster squeaking with fright. I leapt into super hero mode and rescued the furry treat from the cats jaws with speed and agility that would have impressed the G Force! Aah it was nothing. All in a days work! Part of the parenting job description.

I hope the bumpy road to holiday bliss has not completely frayed your nerves (as it has mine) and you still have a sense of humour to keep you going. I went from hero to zero within a couple of days. I completely lost my sense of humour in the car with my daughter on the school run yesterday. We arrived at the school and she still did not have her school shoes on. How can it take half an hour to put one sock on? She called me a stinky dragon woman and I told her she made me that way! She ran off to her classroom in a flood of tears and I cried my way back home in a daze wondering what happened to that cute little gurgling bundle that used to gaze at me adoringly. Later that afternoon we apologised to each other and laughed about it.

I will be asking Santa for a lot more patience and sleep in my stocking this year.
