I write this newsletter with a beanie on my head that proudly displays our South African flag in support of the South African teams who are participating in the Olympics in China. I have my son on my lap who is unwell and running a temperature. Yes, I am proud to be a multi-tasking, working mum and I admire the strength all women have to be able to be so many different people in their daily lives. Moms, just remember that you can occasionally take off your super woman cloak and accept help from others when it is offered. I know I am often too proud to do this and it is definitely a weakness I need to work on. (My husband would disagree. He says he feels like my official courier service!) Remember it takes a village to raise a child and the more friends and family you have around you to help the better it is for you and your child. Wow, August is a busy month. Today the Olympics begin. Tomorrow is National Women's Day. This weekend is the Living and Loving Baby and Kids Expo at the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria. Here you can see the latest, safest and most practical baby and kids products with hands on displays and demonstrations. The Baby Expo™ will be in Durban from the 29th – 31st August at the ICC, and this year little Durbanites are in for a very special treat. BJ and Baby Bop will be joining Barney on the Baby City stage for the first time ever in Durban. Super-dee-dooper! If you have a baby and you need help on essential topics such as sleep, feeding and health, then you need to book a place at a Netcare Baby Sense Seminars. Not only do you get to listen to talks by South African experts, but you can also ask questions and meet other mothers too! You will also receive a goodie bag! The Baby Sense Seminars will be held next month in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Come on Durbanites, we very rarely get something like this going on in our neck of the woods. Make the most of this opportunity. August is also "Child Safety Month". 4 A Kid specialise in child safety products and have a web page dedicated to child safety tips. I don't often do the "Thought for the Day" thing, but with my son lying on my lap, holding me tight, I urge all parents to: "Focus on and appreciate what you do have and forget about what you don't have." Words of wisdom brought to you by my husband Richard. Take care. Cara |
