Dear Moms, Dads, Relatives, Educators and Business Owners Woohoo! Congratulations to the Springboks who won their first game in the Rugby World Cup 2011 on Sunday against Wales. Well - just, by 1 point! Thanks a lot for making us sweat it out on a day when the temperature was well over 30 degrees Celsius. The kids missed the entire game as they were far more interested in enjoying their first outdoor swim of the season and making the most of a beautiful spring day in Durban. With spring in full swing my kids have been nagging to get the veggie garden going again. They delight in being able to pick food out of the garden, wash it and pop it in their mouths or toss into a salad. Unfortunately, I never inherited my dad’s talent for gardening and landscaping. Last Summer's rather feeble attempt resulted in a few stunted carrots, an out of control chilli bush which over produced and then promptly died from exhaustion, and some strange tasting celery which the guinea pigs enjoyed. Fortunately, the herb garden seems to get by on its own and the lavender and mint are in a battle to take over completely. This summer I am a little more hopeful. My daughter has organic gardening as a subject at school and is really enthusiastic about applying her knowledge to our garden at home. With her help, a lot of patience and a few children's gardening books with step-by-step instructions (see 5 best gardening books for your child below) I think our veggie garden will produce more than just guinea pig food this season! If you are currently planning a birthday party for an outdoor garden loving child, we have included some spring garden party and cupcake ideas below to inspire you. How about having a garden party anyway, just for fun? We are delighted to inform you that the 2012 MOM diary is now available to order and this year there are A5 sizes on sale. The MOM diary is designed to assist women in organising and managing their busy schedules. The author is a busy mom to 5 boys. Remember to fill in time for yourself, your children and your partner BEFORE you schedule in anything else for 2012! Click on the banner below for more information. Does your school have a veggie or herb garden on the go? If so, please email us the name of your school, the location and some pictures.
