Dear Moms, Dads, Relatives, Educators and Business Owners

When we moved into our house 6 years ago, it had been freshly painted and nicely maintained by the old retired couple who sold it to us.

Over the years our kids and pets took liberty of moulding our house into a home. There is clear evidence of the following:

• The burglar guards have doubled as jungle gyms
• The walls are perfect spider monkey climbing structures
• The skirting boards are great for stopping out of control roller blades, skate boards and scooters
• The doors work well as swings and door frames double as growth charts
• The walls are big canvases for young, budding artists
• The couch is a trampoline for the kids and a scratch patch for the cats
• The wooden cottage pane window frames are cockatiel chew treats
• Bunnies love to nibble on the curtains especially when they are hidden behind the couch where you can't see them
• A racing track etched on the floor tiles between the front door and the back door from years of kids and dogs running in out of the house

When my husband asks, “Do you want to go on holiday or fix up the house?” I tell him, "Holiday for sure. When the kids have grown up and left home, and all the animals are gone, then we can move out and buy a new house." I think I heard him mutter under his breadth, "And not inform anyone of our new address."

Every house, "moulded" or not, should have an interesting book shelf to encourage a love of books. We have surfed the web and compiled a list of creative kids bookshelf ideas. We have also sourced a list of storage ideas from local suppliers to help you hide the mess. Hiding is so much easier than tidying! For those kids who are not permitted to personalise the walls with crayons and paints, we have a list of 10 kids wall decor ideas. I especially love the wall decals that the older kids can help stick on the wall.
