Hello readers Halloween may be celebrated only once a year around the world, but in my house, we find icky things that make you feel squeamish and queasy fairly frequently. If you too have a couple of cats and some free range kids you will identify with the scenarios below. In the morning it is wise to tread carefully down the passage to avoid stepping on any corpses the cats have proudly left out on display. If they would only kill for food and not just for fun, that would be great. We could save a lot of money on cat food. But no, the cats kill, behead and disembowel at night and leave the carnage out to prove you don’t have to watch Nat Geo Wild to see how gruesome nature can be! The free range kids take it upon themselves to ensure that whatever belongs in the house goes into the garden and comes back into the house containing whatever belongs in the garden. In our house “Monster Bug Wars” are the frequent bug relocation battles between parents and children. The kids are amazed how clever and strong bugs can be at night. Houdini would be impressed by what they can escape from! The parents are hoping by the time their children reach the age when they realise there is no way the bugs can be escaping without help from the inside, they will have lost interest in the bug relocation programme. As Maxine Davies (Manager at www.kidzworld.co.za) always says: “Parenting is not for sissys!” Happy Halloween.
