Hello readers

Do you think that pupils, parents and even businesses should be contributing to the learning material in the classroom? Do you think that pupils and parents should make teachers aware of and assist with access to new resources, research and teaching tools? Should schools be sharing ideas and learning resources with each other? Or do you feel that the above should be left up to the teacher, school and government to take care of?

Extract from Wikipedia: "Crowdsourcing is the act of outsourcing tasks, traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, to an undefined, large group of people or community (a "crowd"), through an open call."

I remember many lessons in high school where I sat with a book on my lap reading because the school work was extremely boring and un engaging. Being at school was something I had to endure, made bearable only by my group of friends. For many years after leaving school I had an awful recurring nightmare that I was still at High School!

I never want my children to have to "endure" school. I want them to love and be excited about learning and attending school and understand the relevance of the subjects they are learning. If I could make one wish that could change the world, I would wish for all the funniest comedians, the best movie makers, the most talented photographers and graphic artists, the most passionate and knowledgeable educators and the top advertising agencies, to all get together and create the most entertaining and engaging educational material. In my opinion, fun and creative learning should not end when a child graduates from pre-school and educational institutions should practise an "engage and co-create" mentality.

Unfortunately I have no magic wand or genie at my command, but I do believe that every individual can make a difference in their own way utilising their own skills and resources. If you believe in making a difference to education in our country then please visit our "Crowdsourcing the Classroom" page for useful web site resources and ideas. If you are involved with helping out schools in disadvantaged communities and schools who are crowdsourcing, we would love to hear from you. Please let us know how it is working and share with us any ideas on how others may be involved. You can also submit any web sites or current initiatives you believe should be included on this page.
