Dear Moms, Dads, Relatives, Educators and Business Owners Last weekend we watched a favourite movie from my childhood. The Neverending Story. My daughter has been begging me for the last year to hire it from the DVD store. I told her only when her brother turns 7 as I felt the nasty looking wolf was a bit scary for him. My son turns 7 this month and I finally gave in to her “Bart Simpson style never give up asking for something until you get it.” We watched the movie together as a family. I have not seen the movie since I was a teenager and it was funny to see how dated the special effects were. To think we were so impressed by them when the movie was first released! The kids did not notice the lack of modern day technology and we gave them an explanation of animatronics. They loved the movie and my daughter even cried when the horse was stuck in the sinking sand, as did I when I was a kid. The funny little scientist character still made me laugh as did Limahl’s music video of the song – so very eighties!! (We looked this up on the internet afterwards). The message from the movie is a timeless one. Never give up on your dreams and never stop using your imagination. I would like to encourage all our readers to schedule in a family “golden oldie” movie night this Easter to share some of your favourite kids’ movies with your children. You could ask the Easter bunny to deliver a few if you are aiming to cut down on the chocolate load this year. I do recommend that you preview them first. The original version of Annie has Carol Burnett prancing around in her underwear after drinking a bit too much alcohol!! In this issue we have included some links to Easter books and useful Easter web sites. Don’t forget to consult our family entertainment calendars for the days you need to get out the house or away from the office. If you did not get through all the activities on our holiday activity list we posted last year, here is the link again. We wish you a wonderful Easter filled with quality "down" time and fun family traditions, if you don't have any, start some, the kids will love it.
