Ever heard of ‘Giraffe Giggles’, ‘Jackal Juice’, ‘Tortoise Tarts’ or ‘Warthog Wraps’? These are among some of the creative recipes conjured up in Tracy Going’s book, African Animals, Rhymes & Recipes.
Tracy Going, a former TV and radio news anchor has written this magical A-Z book for children about African animals found throughout our continent, cleverly describing in rhyme the animal’s habits, habitats & physical characteristics.
Here are some excerpts of the rhymes to wet your reading appetite :
E is for the extraordinary, enormous Elephant…
G is for the gentle and very graceful Giraffe…
W is for the wondering, weathered Warthog…
Y is for, yelping, yowling Yellow Baboon..
Exquisite illustrations of the animals in their habitats border and background the rhymes to take you on an imaginary wild-life journey.
Each rhyme is followed by a recipe that is easy for kids to make (with a little supervision). The recipe page gives guides on the ‘tools’ you will need for each recipe together with ‘you need’ (ingredients) and ‘how to make it’.
The finished products of these vegetarian and relatively healthy recipes are beautifully photographed for extra guidance on how your end result should look – and to get your tummy rumbling and mouth watering.
To add to this, at the end of the book there is additional interesting facts about the animals featured in Tracy’s rhymes.
Did you know that Jackals mate for life? Or that baby Hippos are born under water? What about that the Bat Eared fox has up to 50 teeth?...
