When I mentioned to my two daughters aged 6 and 9 that they would help me with a product review and that clay was involved they just did not stop nagging at me as to when they could start….

We made the Doodle Project’s pendant charm / key ring kit which arrives packaged in a brown corrugated box containing the following items :

• Clay to make the beads and shapes for the key ring, all neatly packed in small sealed envelopes;
• A pot of varnish with a paintbrush;
• Glitter dust to add extra lustre to the clay beads if required;
• 8 eye pins, extra loops, a clasp and a key ring loop;
• Instructions.

The clay is so easy to use because it softens while you work with it and this makes it easier to shape and mould.  Both my girls decided to let their creativity flow and they made all sorts of sweet little characters.

The clay mixes easily so you can create your own colours or marble type effects.  It is also very quick and simple to put different pieces together as these do not require glue!  You simply place the pieces together and once these are baked they stick together.

After baking the clay sets and is ready for varnishing and adding a bit of glitter – quite a tricky process as you need to varnish the one side let it dry and then varnish the other side, but the girls loved it.

Make sure you have small nosed pliers though to bend the wire to attach and clamp to the key rings!  Otherwise you will be nagged endlessly to finish the projects (I learned the hard way!)

Voila – a pretty creation to keep or give away as a ‘I made it myself’ gift.

I can definitely recommend stocking up on some of these kits for your kids to make crafty gifts for their family, teachers  or to keep.
