Do not read any further if you do not want to know the story line or ending of this book or the previous two "the immortals series" books.
This is the third book in “The immortals” series. The main characters are Damen, who has been immortal for several hundred years, and Ever, who after encountering each other in many past lives can now be together forever, now that Ever has decided to become immortal too. However in book two Ever, in a bid to save Damen’s life added a drop of her blood to the antidote to his illness. His life is spared but now if they have any physical contact whatsoever, Damen will die.
The book begins with the last chapter of book two, and goes on to Ever explaining to Damen the ramifications of his having the anti-dote. Damen also explains that just before he was given the antidote he was dying and he saw where he was going... to Shadowland. A dark void filled with nothing, but on the way there he saw all his selfish and greedy acts. This has a profound effect on Damen and he decides that he has to atone for 600 years of vanity. Roman is still on the scene and tells Ever he has the antidote to the antidote but that she will have to pay a high price to get it for Damen.
In the interim her aunt has decided that Ever should get a job to gain some work experience. Ever decides to take a job at “Mystics and Moonbeams” rather than take the offer of work at her aunts legal practice. There she meets Jude and extremely handsome blonde haired green eyed hunk that she feels an immediate connection with. At this book shop she finds an ancient spell book “The book of shadows” which she hopes will help her find the cure for the antidote Roman gave Damen. Through a series of events Ever finds out that in each incarnation of her lives she has been in love with Jude, but Damen has always interfered. Damen in his spirit of atonement feels that he has interfered in her life enough and that perhaps her destiny was always to be with Jude. So she finds herself in a triangle not of her making.
The story ends with Damen uncured and the question of what Jude and Ever mean to each other unanswered which leads the reader to the next book in the series.... Dark Flame.
