In my opinion this book should be renamed "How to prevent tantrums and future behavioural problems in children."
After reading Positive Parenting, I have managed to resolve the biggest issue in my relationship with my daughter and finally put an end to her tantrums.
She has had tantrums since she was a year old. I have experienced the terrible 1 to 7's not just the terrible twos. Over the past 6 years I have read numerous parenting books and articles on dealing with tantrums and tried many different ways to respond to her tantrums but none of these worked.
Positive Parenting opened my eyes and helped me look at the problem from a new perspective. I never really considered or looked at how I could prevent tantrums in the first place. I have now identified the catalyst and by using methods outlined by Margaret in this book have put an end to the tantrums within a week.
Margaret Fourie sums up the tools to life-proof your child, explains how to use positive communication in family life (how important it is) and how to keep the lines of communication open in preparation for those challenging teenage years. Her explanations are concise and her concepts are easy to comprehend (although in our fast paced world not so easy to implement). She backs them up with real life examples. She also gives you exercises to complete at the end of each chapter.
If there were a parenting course one could do, this book should be an essential part of it.
