What is Model club all about?
This concept is being introduced to pre-primary and primary schools as an activity to help achieve Learning Outcomes for ages 3-12years old.
Learners are rewarded with motivational certificates during the year, they participate in fashion shows, talent shows, community events and graduate with a certificate in recognition of their effort put. The learner is able to acquire skills which could benefit them when joining a casting or talent agency. Parents are kept informed by newsletters throughout the year.
Why do we teach modelling and speech and drama?
Fear of speaking in public or socializing with peers is not uncommon for kids and can develop into adulthood if not challenged early enough. Speech & drama enhances school performance as it develops self esteem, social skills and conversation. It teaches empathy and not only meant for the "shy guys" but for those who are exuberant and wish to find innovative ways of expressing and being creative. Modelling and Speech &Drama therefore work hand in hand as modelling becomes the platform for expression and speech & drama enhances this further along the way!
Physical Development:
During Ramp Modelling /Deportment children learn to use proper posture when walking and sitting which develops upper body strength. Health and grooming promotes good hygienic habits, personal care and independence. Dance routine stimulates rhythm, spacial awareness and stimulates eye-foot and eye-hand coordination.
Gross Motor Skills:
Children use their right and left side of their bodies to walk, turn and develop sequences which enhance coordination and balance.
Fine motor skills:
During speech and drama students are encouraged to use their creative abilities by doing simple drawing and painting activities.
Visual /Auditory Perception:
Children make use of their imagination, colours and clothing and create their own style. Listening to instructions on how to use different steps on ramp also stimulates auditory processing. Music improves their auditory discrimination as they learn to walk to different sounds/tones of music. It allows children to express themselves, make conversation and socialise. Its boosts self confidence without them even noticing it!
Attention/Concentration:
Speech and drama and ramp modelling provides a more fun, interesting environment where children have the ability to listen, concentrate and carry out tasks successfully. This is fundamental in classroom setting and during foundation phase.
Language Development:
Speech and drama focuses on this area of development. Children learn simple breathing techniques and talking in front of groups during game activities, show and tell and role play. We use simple stories and nursery rhymes which children can later dramatise.
