A short story about Seedlings & Flowers nursery school
On the 9th of January 2002 a very different and unique nursery school was born.
It was called Seedlings & Flowers nursery school crèche and aftercare centre.
It was a very new concept for the nursery school industry, it focused on realising and catering for individual needs, small classes, very high teaching standards and above all an abundance of love between teacher and pupil.
We started off with 1 teacher 1 class and 3 children.
Since then we have grown to 4 classrooms, 6 teachers and over 30 children.
Here at Seedlings we believe in quality over quantity and that is why we have no more than between 5 – 16 children per class as this ensures that each child receives individual attention and is our top priority.
Although many other nursery schools have tried to copy our methods and ideas no one has ever come close.
Our standards are higher than any other nursery school and that is why we can proudly say:
“Look no further – none better”
We have 4 classrooms namely Peaches, Apples, Berries & Oranges. Our classrooms are bright, colourfull spacious and are all equipped with the finest age appropriate toys and learning equipment you can fined which is all shipped in from either Germany or England.
A sneak peak at our classes:
Peaches (3mnths – walking, max 5 pupils)
Our baby centre has been a very long time in the “making” as, when we were putting it together we would not settle for second best, Baby’s are such an important age group as they can not talk thus cannot tell you what they need, so consequently they need their caretakers and surroundings to be fully devoted to their every need and want. We do baby gym and baby massage with our little ones once a week. We do weekly weight checks as well as daily progress charts on each child. Each baby has their own cot with linen and accessories provided. We have breathing sensors on our cots as well as having classic music / nursery rhymes playing all the times.
Apples class (walking – 2 ½ / 3yrs, max 12 pupils)
The fundamental part of Apples class is imagination and what we call accidental learning. Children of this age group have a very small attention span when it comes to actual “work” and that is why we teach through play and through fun activities. For example instead of sitting a child of this age down in front of a worksheet and explaining it to them we prefer to make a game of it. The children are still learning exactly the same things, just in a fun way which they are more likely to retain the information. We do art on a daily basis as well as group time which includes singing, basic discussions and we touch on the subject of basic colours, shapes, animals and the noises they make etc, but most importantly as with all our classes our toddlers receive individual attention and are loved very much.
Berries class (3yrs – 4 ½, max 16 pupils)
Berries class is a very exciting and fun class. Our day in Berries comprises of group time (where we discuss our theme, do singing and do music etc) Art, skills work, alphabet, maths and most importantly free play and library time. Our day is very structured but we bring the fun element into everything we do as a child will not learn anything if they are not enjoying it. In Berries class we focus very much on each individual child’s needs as not all children learn at the same time or the same way and are very careful when teaching our children that they do truly understand the work they are doing and if I child does not understand something we will go over it until they are happy with it and have grasped the concept completely. We love our older children and love the things they come up with.
Oranges class (Grade 0, max 10 pupils)
Our main objective in Oranges class is to prepare your child emotionally, mentally and physically for school. When children leave Oranges class they are more that prepared to face the world that lies before them and more often than not all the children who have done their Grade 0 with us have turned out to be high achievers, head girl/head boy in their school, very advanced for their age and most important of all well round young people.
Our playgrounds
We have three different playgrounds in our school:
The first one has lovely lushes grass, a sandpit, a beautiful wooden jungle gym and three very different kinds of swings all imported from England.
The second has rubber mating on the floor with a shady tree and gorgeous tree house. The third is an all weather playground with a roof that can be opened or closed depending on the weather, with an outdoor carpet on the floor plus a jungle gym which is also imported from England, this ensures that your child is always in the shade and will never be sunburnt.
Our Orchard
Another recent edition to our school is our very own organic orchard. We are currently growing fruit such as strawberry’s, pomegranates, grapes, blackberries, raspberries, apples, peaches and pears. Once a week each class takes turns in “checking” our trees (to see if there is any new fruit) and watering them. When there is fruit on the trees the children take great delight in picking it and having a picnic. This is part of our mission to promote healthy eating and taking care of our bodies.
Some other features of our school:
We are open for all end of term holidays which is included in our fees.
Our concert at Christmas is a nativity play where our children learn the true Christmas story before hand and then get to be the people they have been learning about. We feel it is very important for the children to know the true meaning of Christmas and our children absolutely adore doing the Christmas concert.
Some of our special events include:
A Valentines Day ball (where we crown our couple of the year), an inn house camping trip, End of year graduation, Pyjama day, Career day and much, much more
Once a month we have an Inn – house marionette show. Each show has a specific theme that ties in with the theme we are doing at school and shows include props, marionette’s, dressing up and load’s of other interactive tools to get the children involved and excited about the theme.
We could go on all day about the wonderful things that happen at Seedlings but our main mission is to:
Provide a stimulation environment with spontaneous play of their own choice but also organised “play” from which they learn.
To stimulate curiosity and impart knowledge.
To improve communication skills, language and vocabulary.
To create a comfortable home from home environment where children feel happy and the parents feel free to communicate with the teachers whenever they want
But most important of all,
To Nurture Kindness, especially towards smaller children and animals. Honesty, good manners, self esteem, respect for themselves and others, leadership and confidence.
In other words our aim is to turn out well rounded happy children.
But what do parents such as yourselves think about Seedlings:
